N95 Masks To secure properly on the face; place on the face in approximate area. First carefully pinch metal securely over nose to prevent air from entering in this area. While holding upper nose piece in place adjust over chin and sides. No air should enter from around perimeter. The masks are not comfortable. The only air that should be moving around mask should flow through tiny pores in fiber of mask.
These masks are disposable. They are intended for single use. If you are going to use them multiple times they must be stored properly. Individual zip lock bags are acceptable for this. Do not contaminate masks with multiple masks or worse multiple person masks. Best case place in same direction every time so that you are not contaminating the inside or the outside.
Cloth Masks Personally this is where I lose it. I know some people have added a variety of filter media to improve the porosity of these masks. These masks are not guaranteed to protect you from anything or anyone else. Hold your mask up to the light; do you see light passing through? Remember, bacteria, virus, and other organisms are microscopic meaning you cannot see them with the naked eye. You need 100x magnification and stain to see them properly.
Wear them as a reminder not to touch your face and self-contaminate. Coughing in them is superior to nothing at all. I recommend having 2 zip lock bags for your cloth masks. One labeled clean and the other labeled dirty. Try not to mix them up. Launder after a single use. Tide, for example does not say that it disinfects your laundry. They do make a separate product for this though.
