Label Directions
“For laundry, sort laundry by color and add detergent. Fill bleach to max line in dispenser or add 1/2 cup bleach to wash water. Add clothes and start wash. For best results, add to wash 5 minutes after the wash cycle has begun. For cleaning and deodorizing, dilute 1/2 cup of bleach with 1 gallon of water. Pre-wash surface, mop, or wipe with bleach solution. Allow solution to contact surface for at least 5 minutes. Rinse well and air dry. For prolonged use, wear rubber gloves”
A good source for readable label directions is online. Amazon usually has label directions available for consumers.
The list of ingredients is proprietary meaning companies do not want you to know their formulation; like the way some people do not want to share their recipes.
Known Ingredients:
Sodium hypochlorite is the active ingredient, bleach, oxidizer, cleaner, and deodorizer. Active range is from 1-5% hypochlorite per label. This large range is due to tendency of product to decompose or breakdown. Shelf life is recommended for a year.
Sodium hydroxide lye, alkali, pH adjuster, can also be used as a thickener.
Cetyl Betaine and Sodium Xylenesulfonate Surfactants, hydrotrope, or more commonly called soap. They act to grab a hold of dirt and remove it from the surface. Also removes waxes. Commonly used in cosmetics, dishwashing liquids, and dishwashing detergents. These products increase thickness but more importantly in this formulation make the product elastic to reduce splashing
Fragrance if a scented variety is used.
Possible reasons for the lack of disinfectant on the label. The EPA requires Companies to prove effectiveness of claims. This protects the consumer from false advertising. It is also possible that one or more of the ingredients deactivates the active causing it not to disinfectant. A last possible reason is that the dilution as recommended may make the concentration too low be effective.
